purpose: test the correlation between Li-abundance and rotation period for solar type (G0-K0) stars
Introduction
- It seems that rapidly rotating stars have more lithium than slower stars (of the same mass)
- slower rotators more efficiently transport Li to the inner layers of the star to be processed
- faster rotators have more Li stuck in their outer layers for longer
Observations
- Data taken from Prosser-Stauffer archive of stars in open clusters
- when solar type stars were targeted, plots of [Li] vs Prot showed a clear correlation
